Homes in the Bay Area’s First Conservation Community Open for Sale

Lagoon Valley is a secluded valley just off Highway 80 where livability meets sustainability

85% of Lagoon Valley’s Specific Plan is dedicated to recreation and open space preservation. It’s the Bay Area’s first master plan where sustainable design principles and climate resiliency are embedded throughout the community.

Here, there is a focus on preserving ecologically and culturally valuable lands. Neighborhood design maximizes the link between people and open space.

Protection and preservation of land and natural resources is achieved by clustering housing and infrastructure so that residential neighborhoods sit lightly in the valley. Restoration and maintenance of open space includes protection of viewsheds, use of open space for ecosystem services such as habitat restoration; flood mitigation; passive and active recreation; wildfire buffers; and green building principles which conserve energy and water resources. Residents will enjoy an environment with over 400-acres of public parks, a new 70-acre wetland preserve, and a 1,305-acre nature preserve in the surrounding hills.

“Conservation Communities are designed to prioritize preservation of the natural environment while carefully nestling residential homes surrounded by open space. When we integrate much-needed housing within a mindful environmental footprint, and include effective design for wildfire and flood protection, we create a symbiosis with nature that provides good stewardship for the land in perpetuity.” says Curt Johansen, Lagoon Valley’s Development Director, who has dedicated the past 22 years of his career in sustainable development to researching and planning this innovative community.
